Hemel Hempstead, 8 February 2002. O'Briens, the Irish
owned chain of sandwich bars, has chosen Epson SR-600 touchscreen
terminals as a key part of a new EPoS system, designed to make
its service more efficient and minimise customer waiting time.
The company, which sells
both made-to-order and ready prepared sandwiches, wanted a
solution which would be suitable for its busy servery counter.
Designed for use in hospitality environments, where drinks,
grease and food debris are everyday hazards for the EPoS hardware,
the SR-600 features a waterproof touch panel and robust casing,
to minimise any contamination from spillages. Its small footprint
and in-built cable management system make highly efficient
use of the space available.
Integrated into the chain's existing IT
set up, the SR-600 is running O'Briens' Maitre'D software,
from the Posera Corporation, supplied by Scotland-based Forth
Cash Systems. The 32-bit Windows application includes a graphic
interface, which makes inputting order information at the
point of sale quicker and easier. From the Back Office station,
the solution gives O'Briens extensive management reporting
options, full inventory control and the ability to manage
operations such as accounts receivable and employee time-keeping
and attendance.
Colin Pearson, the first O'Briens franchisee
to use the new system and a key figure in its adoption, is
already delighted: "We were impressed by the SR-600's
specifications, especially the powerful memory, in-built CD-ROM,
PC slot and USB ports, which provide an ideal platform for
possible future expansion," he said.
"More importantly," he continued,
"since good service is fundamental to the success of
our operation, the SR-600 really delivers when it comes to
transaction speed and functionality at the point of sale.
For example, the clear, readable display makes it easy for
our servery staff to input made-to-order sandwich selections
featuring our more unusual products, such as Irish Whiskey
Salami and even Guinness Mustard."
So far, the solution has been installed
in the chain's Hull franchise, however a roll-out will begin
to 160 units in 2002, while developments such as EFT and loyalty
are also currently being considered.
