Launch of new Radio Frequency Interface (RFI) gives
retail and hospitality sectors the opportunity to operate printers
in wireless environment.
Hemel Hempstead, 10 May 2004. Epson has announced
the availability of a universal RF Interface (RFI) which will
enable its range of thermal, inkjet and impact printers to
operate in wireless applications. Compatible with all current
Epson printers, the UB-R02 has been launched in response to
increased demand from the market for wireless and mobile technology,
which is more cost effective to install and eliminates the
requirement for cabling.
The high-speed (IEEE802.11b) UB-R02 has an uninterrupted range
of 100m and will give retailers the flexibility to locate
printers where required, particularly in listed buildings
where cabling is limited, or environments where layouts are
regularly changed. It is suitable for wide range of applications,
including as part of a food ordering system in hospitality
environments; and to transmit picking lists to the warehouse.
In line with all Epson products, the
UB-R02 is designed to meet open standards, making it easy
to install and configure with existing hardware. It also conforms
to the full range of industry standard protocols, including
IP, TCP and HTTP. RF card settings can be managed from a web-based
interface, using the IP address of the device within the browser.
