Major department store implements advanced touchscreen technology to enhance the customer experience
Hemel Hempstead, 4 December 2006. Arnotts, Ireland’s oldest and largest department store, has implemented a new EPoS system featuring Epson’s IR-700 and software from Oracle. Recently undergoing redevelopment and extension, Arnotts chose Epson’s latest Intelligent Register system for fast, reliable and efficient customer service at the point of sale and to reflect the contemporary and modern store environment.
Having previously rolled-out a fully integrated inventory, warehousing and merchandise management system, Arnotts also decided to upgrade its points of sale in order to ensure maximum reliability and efficiency. “With more than one million products on offer, reliable IT is paramount to an efficient and smooth point of sale,” explained Paul Dickson, director of information systems at Arnotts. “We needed to feel totally secure that any hardware we implemented was up to the challenge, but at the same time was totally user-friendly.”
Featuring an integrated, intuitive touchscreen, built-in receipt printer and magnetic stripe reader, Epson’s IR-700 includes everything needed for the point of sale in one compact and stylish unit. Ergonomically designed, it offers Arnotts smooth, effortless transactions for faster service at the point of sale. “We went with Epson’s IR-700 for many reasons – speed, flexibility, reliability and looks. It’s easy to install, portable and extremely durable which is vital in any fast moving retail environment.”
In total, Arnotts has 204 Epson IR-700s and, as a result, every retail zone within the store is now benefiting from a new and improved point of sale. “The Epson system is working extremely well and has really improved store operations. It’s given the staff the power to deliver enhanced service,” commented Paul.
In addition Arnotts envisages Epson technology will play a key part in its next venture – a €700m plan for a new retail-driven quarter in Dublin. The “Northern Quarter” project will see numerous shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, apartments and a hotel developed. “Obviously technology will also play a vital role in this new venture and judging by the success of our department store upgrade, we have confidence in Epson technology which will prove invaluable for the future,” concluded Paul.
