From curtains to cushions and throws,
most people recognise that it’s the soft furnishings which
make the difference between living space and a real home. To
give their properties that stylish personal touch, many home-owners
have turned to fabric and textile specialists such as Morada
International Ltd.

Founded in 1892, the Lancashire-based company has a reputation
for delivering top quality designs, competitive pricing and
excellent customer service. It also has ambitious growth plans
for the retailing side of the business – expanding from
6 to 30 stores. In order to handle the growing volumes of transactions
which were expected as new home furnishing branches opened,
Morada decided to invest in an integrated accounting and retail
solution.
Mr Stuart Taylor, Chief Executive of Morada commented: “Whilst
we had an existing mainframe system for managing the entire
business, we needed an integrated solution that could be implemented
easily and run as a separate entity within the new retail side
of the business. The ability to generate reports and have up-to-the-minute,
accurate financial information was also essential.”
The solution, which was developed by Scunthorpe-based consultants,
HBP Systems, combines Exchequer Enterprise for Head Office stock
control and financial accounting, with Paypoint software at
the point of sale. The EPoS software from Daventry-based APS,
runs on Epson’s powerful, integrated, Intelligent Register
(IR) with its built-in touchscreen display, thermal printer
and Magnetic Stripe Reader (MSR).
Development carried out by HBP Systems enables orders –
including special one-offs – to be processed at the point of sale, and then posted into Exchequer automatically. By using
back-to-back ordering within Exchequer, only one purchase order
per supplier needs to be raised, vastly reducing the management
time and cost involved.
The reporting capabilities of the new system enable Morada’s
management team to see daily reports of the performance of each
branch and monitor best selling lines and alter the stock range
accordingly. Exchequer Enterprise’s dynamic link to Microsoft
Excel enables management to easily manipulate information held
in Exchequer to create the required reports. In addition, Exchequer’s
Paperless Module is being used to process purchase orders and
statements via e-mail and fax rather than by paper, helping
to make the process significantly more efficient.
