Pavers puts best foot forward with
IR-700

Selling 1.8 million pairs of shoes a year, Pavers’ success is built on firmly-held traditional family values, offering buyers quality brands at affordable prices and excellent customer service.

Catherine Paver initially started a business organising clothing and homeware parties at people’s houses and village halls, eventually offering footwear as part of her unique selling strategy. The popularity of the shoe offer combined with Catherine’s own quest for the perfect pair of shoes led to the establishment of a footwear only shop in Scarborough in 1971. A family-run business, today Pavers has over 70 retail outlets throughout the UK and Eire and employs 700 people and is committed to achieving a sales and profit growth in excess of 20% a year.

In 1998 Pavers launched its sister company, shoe-shop.com, Europe’s biggest on-line shoe shop, which sells over half a million pairs of shoes a year. The success story doesn’t end there, Pavers has recently launched a new chain of stores aimed at the over twenties. There are 8 Staccato stores so far, inspired by catwalk fashion, offering on-trend footwear at high street prices.

Priding itself in its agility, Pavers endeavours to deliver fast, innovative and timely solutions, meeting the ongoing demands of the company-wide deployment of business, warehousing, office and shop systems. Having already invested heavily in head office and warehouse systems, the company was keen to improve its store systems to support company-wide initiatives which will deliver the highest levels of service to its customers.

Jon Dodsworth, Business Systems Manager at Pavers explained, “System reliability and poor performance was a stumbling block to achieving high levels of customer service; high availability, quality and performance were key criteria when selecting new tills. One major problem with our old system was that the till base was prone to high operating temperatures which made the system unstable. We wanted a system that was efficient, user-friendly, aesthetically appealing, compact and of course, cost-effective.”

After looking at alternative solutions, Pavers decided to opt for Epson’s Intelligent Register, IR-700, to host WinRMIS software from Eurostop. Jon commented, “The new solution meets all our expectations, in our opinion it is best in class.”

Featuring an intuitive LCD touchscreen, the IR-700 is the smallest integrated system in its class. Ergonomically designed to ensure smooth and effortless transactions, the system has an in-built smart cable management system to keep the point of service uncluttered and also minimise the risk of accidental disconnection. “We use Epson printers at Pavers and are pleased with their performance. When Eurostop demonstrated Epson’s IR-700 we were impressed and chose it for several reasons – reliability being the foremost,” added Jon. “Its sleek and contemporary design complements our in-store ambience, and because it is so compact it saves us valuable counter space. What’s more, the reasonable price only adds to the winning combination of functionality and aesthetics. The IR-700 will certainly form a part of our expansion plans and remains our preferred choice for existing and future installations.”
