Ramada takes on touchscreen technology

With nearly 900 hotels across more than 25 countries, Ramada is committed to providing excellent service, terrific value and a superior hotel experience. A prominent player in the mid-market hotel segment, Ramada's aim is to further increase its development with new constructions and high-profile conversion projects for its franchisees.

One such franchisee is QN Hotels. Founded in 1995, the company owns and operates three Holiday Inns with the latest addition to its portfolio being the Ramada Plaza Wrexham, a £7.6 million four-star hotel. Featuring 85 deluxe-air conditioned en-suite bedrooms and substantial conference and banqueting facilities, the Ramada is billed as Wrexham's premier hotel offering state-of-the art facilities including high-speed internet access, large LCD screens in bedrooms, on-demand pay-TV system, a mini gym, spa-pool and sauna.

As the first new build project undertaken by QN Hotels, and the first new build Ramada Plaza in the UK, the company was naturally keen to implement the latest technology to ensure the smooth running of its latest development.

QN required a sophisticated EPoS solution for the hotel's two bars, the restaurant's maitre D desk and the executive lounge. "Reliability was our primary concern. We wanted an EPoS system which could handle the hospitality requirements of the hotel whilst providing a user-friendly interface for the staff," explained Nabeel Ahmed, Director of QN Hotels.

Leisure and hospitality experts, Brilliant Hotel Software, supplied QN Hotels with the solution. It recommended Epson's touchscreen IR-700 terminals running Brilliant POS+ software. Flexible, feature-rich and easy-to-use, Brilliant POS+ includes functionality such as table ordering, waiter identification, revenue reports and inventory control. Brilliant POS+ directly interfaces with the Hotel's property management system, Brilliant PM PRO, to seamlessly transfer guest information which, for example, helps to reduce charging errors at the time of checkout.

"We were already using Epson EPoS technology at the Holiday Inn Newport and have been very impressed with its reliability. It made sense for us to stick with a proven solution that we trust for our latest project," added Nabeel. The fully-integrated Epson IR-700 with built-in printer and large LCD touchscreen is the ideal choice for hospitality. It's designed to provide maximum performance in the most demanding environments. The IR-700s are linked to an Epson TM-U230 kitchen printer to form an automated ordering system.

Opened by HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh in March 2006 the Ramada Plaza Wrexham has been a resounding success as has the Brilliant and Epson solution. "We've been impressed by the system's high-performance - it's definitely met our expectations," concluded Nabeel.
