D&A looks good with Epson

With more than 250 years' experience, Dollond & Aitchison is the most established provider of professional eye tests and dispensing services in the UK. With over 370 branches nationwide, D&A The Opticians prides itself on delivering unsurpassed service with high standards of clinical care, an extensive product range and a dedicated team of employees.

In order to further enhance the in-branch experience for its customers, D&A has invested in Epson's industry leading TM-T88 thermal receipt printers which are relied on by many of the world's leading retailers. Integrating easily with D&A's existing EPoS system, the fast thermal TM-T88III and TM-T88IVs are a welcome replacement for the company's previous dot matrix receipt printers.

"We wanted to replace our old printers with the latest technology and trouble-free integration was also vital. Due to its worldwide reputation for quality, the Epson brand was our number one choice," commented Malcolm Mole, IT Project Manager at D&A. As the world's best-selling printer, the TM-T88 offers the dependability and flexibility that D&A needs.

"Reliability, quiet operation and space-efficiency were key factors in our selection process," said Malcolm. With a compact footprint, the TM-T88 series makes the most of the available counter space and, with a Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) of 360,000 hours, it's also extremely reliable.

"With our integration partner, Fujitsu, we evaluated a number of receipt printers and decided on Epson's TM-T88 series. Thanks to the drop-in paper load they are incredibly easy to maintain. Changing a receipt roll takes just seconds," said Malcolm. And as for print speed, receipts are produced at a rate of up to 200mm per second, allowing staff to provide fast, efficient service at the PoS. "The Epson printers are quieter and less costly to operate compared to our previous dot matrix printers. Now, noise in-branch is kept to a minimum while transaction speeds have increased."

Over a period of twelve months, Epson's TM-T88s have been rolled out to D&A's complete estate of over 370 branches nationwide. After seeing how the new printers have helped further streamline customer service, the company is planning further changes for the future. "We are continuing to develop our in-branch EPoS with best-of-breed technology to support both our staff and customers," concluded Malcolm. "We know we can rely on Epson technology to help us enhance our business in the future."
