The Intelligent Register (IR) set the standard for a new generation
of EPoS systems. It may be difficult to imagine, but before
the IR was launched in 1997, few retailers had considered
an integrated point of sale solution. What's more, virtually
no one outside the hospitality sector could benefit from the
ease of use offered by touchscreen interfaces.
Representing a quantum leap in performance and elegance,
the terminal became the natural choice for many of today's
leading retailers - Elf, Whittard and Londis, to name just
a few - across a variety of sectors. It also proved invaluable
in helping retailers enhance customer service and increase
productivity at the point of sale.
Time doesn't stand still however, particularly in retail.
To support the next generation of point of sale applications,
Epson has developed a higher specification version of the
IR - the IR-320 - which is even more powerful, user-friendly
and features a faster, 1.2 GHz Intel processor, 40GB Hard
Disk Drive and increased memory capability (up to 512MB).
It uses the latest connectivity standards, including Ethernet
and USB, to maximise the retailer's options at the point of sale.
Still central to the new IR's appeal is its intuitive touchscreen
interface. It is ideal for even inexperienced operators because
it supports better software design, such as drop-down colour
menus to help to minimise inputting errors. The latest version
is equipped with a 12.1'' TFT SVGA LCD with touch panel, which
has a wide viewing angle for easier operation.
The IR-320 is available with a range of peripheral options,
including an Epson DM-D customer display, a three track Magnetic
Stripe Reader (MSR), Chip and PIN customer terminal, 28-key
keyboard and a range of fast PoS printers. The terminal's
compact, space-saving design - available in cool white or
black - and built-in cable management also ensures there is
ample room on the counter.
